Chillin’ With Vinney: 3 Life Lessons I Learned From Vinney Chopra

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

There’s no doubt that the name Vinney Chopra is synonymous with success. As one of the most visible real estate syndicators around, he is best known as “Mr. Smiles,” multifamily investor. I have been very fortunate to not only call him a mentor, but also a friend. We talk several times a week about all kinds of topics ranging from fatherhood to deal specifics.

Whether it’s a talking philosophy over a glass of red wine, talking points while walking an asset, presenting at a meetup/seminar or just chilling at a hotel lobby in shorts and sandals, I always take the advantage of the opportunity to pick his brain. I was a key team member in two of his latest deals in Central Florida, all the way from touring the assets with brokers, to underwriting to the detailed Due Diligence. In particular, for the most recent deal in the Melbourne market, he tasked me with managing the Due Diligence team (thank you partners!).

I have been blessed to learn many many many lessons, but these three are the ones that continue to stand out.

  1. Gratitude

  2. Goals

  3. Action

Gratitude

Wake up every morning energized and thankful to be alive. Before taking any activities on, spend a moment in reflection. Think about the people that have helped you be where you are today. Think about the experiences that have shaped you. Think about all of the lessons you have learned along the way. Feel gratitude for things you wish to accomplish in the future and he people you want around you. Finally, smile and give thanks to your inner circle. Think of their faces and names and feel grateful of the love that they infuse in you every day.

Goals

Take a hard look at yourself and make an assessment on your health, wealth and relationships. What needs to be improved? Where would you like to be in 3 years, 7 years, 10 years? Make a detailed vision board around the person you want to be with all aspects of your life accounted for. Then, write what goals need to be met within the next year, the next 3 years, 5 years and 10 years. As Tony Robbins has said, “we overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in 10.”

Action

Take. Massive. Action. Period. One of my secret weapons in being able to raise so much capital for real estate syndications in such a short amount of time is because I take action. I feel that this is my super power. I have built credibility because of my consistency, and this is a direct result of advice from Vinney Chopra. What does this look like? It is taking each one of the goals that you wrote out earlier, and mapping out a step by step process for what it would take for you to get from where you are today to meet that goal.

Check out Vinney’s interview on “Success En Español” with Lupita Jimenez. This is the Vinney that I know, humble and in raw emotion. He drops so many nuggets on what it takes to achieve a dream as he details how he chased his. Take notes, and take action!
